A new president for the French Alps Games
Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux has been appointed president of the organising committee for the 2030 Winter Games in the French Alps. The French businessman succeeds Edgar Grospiron, who resigned in September. The appointment was announced in the Lyon area at a press conference, with sports minister Marina Ferrari attending the presentation.[1], [2]
Grospiron departed amid a governance dispute
Grospiron left 18 months after taking the job. The former Olympic moguls champion had lost the confidence of the French government, the two host regions and the national Olympic and Paralympic committees. Those institutions told the International Olympic Committee last month that they no longer believed they could work with him. Vincent Roberti held the presidency temporarily from 14 September. Grospiron, 57, won his Olympic gold medal at the 1992 Winter Games.[1], [2]
Medef experience and a November start
Roux de Bézieux led Medef, France’s employers’ organisation, from 2018 to 2023. He served on the Paris 2024 Olympic board and worked on the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Sport365 gives 2 November as the start of his term. He had chaired the organising committee’s remuneration panel since April. The Winter Olympics are scheduled for 1–17 February 2030, followed by the Paralympics on 1–10 March.[1], [2]
