Brighton win away to Manchester City

Brighton defeated Manchester City 1-0 away in the Premier League.[1], [2]

Yasin Ayari scored in the 11th minute, giving the visitors an advantage they held until the final whistle. It was Brighton’s first victory at the Etihad Stadium. The result came four days after Brighton were eliminated on penalties in the cup meeting between the teams at the same ground.[1]

Dunk’s long pass starts the scoring move

Lewis Dunk began the goal move with a long diagonal pass. Gomez collected the ball on the right and crossed, with Maxim De Cuyper setting up Ayari at the far post. It was Ayari’s third goal of the season. Brighton later had chances to add another: De Cuyper shot over after Ayari created an opening and had a header saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.[1]

Verbruggen and Dunk protect the lead

Bart Verbruggen made important second-half saves, including a stop to his right from Matheus Nunes. Dunk blocked two Erling Haaland attempts. Ndiaye also missed chances for City, while Brighton’s Hinshelwood sent a late effort wide. Coach Fabian Hurzeler made four changes within seven minutes. City had a final corner deep in added time as Brighton held on in front of 3,044 travelling supporters.[1]
