Chelsea return to winning ways

Chelsea defeated Manchester United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.[1], [2]

Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer scored for the hosts, with Palmer converting a penalty. The victory followed successive Chelsea defeats in league and cup competition. Coach Xabi Alonso had changed four members of his starting side, bringing Palmer and Estêvão into the team alongside Marco Palestra and Levi Colwill.[1]

Rogers breaks the second-half deadlock

The first half ended without a goal despite Moisés Caicedo hitting the post. Rogers opened the scoring in the 50th minute after Roméo Lavia won possession in midfield. He went past Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martínez before lifting the ball over Senne Lammens. Palmer’s penalty in the 64th minute extended the lead. Martínez received a second yellow card and United finished with ten players.[1]

Penders and the woodwork deny United

Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders saved attempts from Amad, while Bryan Mbeumo hit the crossbar late on with Penders touching the ball. Wesley Fofana also blocked a United effort. Offside decisions ruled out two Estêvão finishes for Chelsea and a Matheus Cunha effort for the visitors. Ten minutes were added at the end, but the score remained unchanged.[1]
