Junior WRC gives its 2027 champion seven WRC2 starts
Junior WRC’s 2027 winner will receive a seven-round WRC2 programme for 2028, up from four events. The junior season will stay within Europe, with free tyre support aimed at reducing competitors’ costs. The best four results will count, while attendance at the Scottish finale remains compulsory and the final round will lose its double-points status.

The champion’s next step grows
The International Automobile Federation, motorsport’s governing body, and WRC Promoter have announced an expanded prize for the 2027 Junior World Rally Championship winner. The champion is to receive a seven-round WRC2 programme in 2028, up from four events. WRC2 is the next level of the international rallying pathway described by the organisers.[1], [2]
Five European rallies keep varied surfaces
The junior calendar starts on Sweden’s snow and ice, continues to Croatia’s asphalt and then visits Italy. Finland’s fast gravel stages come next, before the season ends in Scotland. Organisers say keeping all five rallies in Europe is intended to reduce travel and vehicle transport costs while preserving experience on different surfaces.[1]
Hankook is to provide competitors with an allocation of free tyres during 2027. The support addresses a major participation cost; the announcement does not specify a total allocation or a cash saving per crew.[1]
Scotland loses double points but stays compulsory
Each crew’s best four results from five rallies count towards the final championship classification. Participation in Rally Scotland is compulsory to qualify for that classification. The finale is also losing its double-points format: it awards the same standard championship points as the other four rounds under the revised sporting rules.[1]
