Gravenberch stays on Merseyside

Liverpool left Ryan Gravenberch out of its travelling squad for the Champions League visit to Fenerbahçe with a heel injury. The midfielder remained on Merseyside for treatment while 22 players travelled to Istanbul. Andoni Iraola said there was a fracture in the player’s heel. Gravenberch had felt discomfort before the Arsenal game and had not improved sufficiently to join the trip.[1], [2]

Iraola will assess the midfielder’s pain

Iraola said the assessment depended on pain and that staff would ask Gravenberch how he felt each day. The midfielder’s involvement had already been limited as Liverpool tried to manage the problem. Asked about Trey Nyoni continuing in midfield, Iraola said the younger player had featured regularly and had the staff’s trust. He wanted Nyoni to keep learning and gaining experience.[1]

Szoboszlai and Muñoz join the travelling squad

Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Muñoz were included after returning to action with substitute appearances at the weekend. Jayden Danns also joined the travelling group for the first time this season. Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni remain long-term injury absentees. Liverpool is also without Jeremie Frimpong, who has a muscle problem, while Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo are unavailable following their omission from the club’s submitted Champions League A squad.[1], [2]
