The PyTorch Foundation said at its Shanghai conference that Alibaba Cloud and Cambricon have joined as Platinum members and Ant Group as a Gold member. Platinum membership carries one seat on the governing board and one on the technical advisory council. Cambricon enters the board at that tier; Alibaba Cloud takes a seat at the same tier. The foundation reports that more than 250 organisations in China contribute to projects including PyTorch, vLLM, DeepSpeed, Ray and Safetensors.
The PyTorch Foundation announced on 8 September at its Shanghai conference that Chinese AI chip designer Cambricon has joined as a Platinum member. Platinum is the foundation's highest membership tier. Cambricon takes a seat on the governing board at that tier.[1], [2]
In the same announcement Alibaba Cloud also joins as a Platinum member. Ant Group joins as a Gold member. Platinum membership carries one seat on the governing board and one on the technical advisory council. Alibaba Cloud takes a board seat at that Platinum tier. Mark Collier, the foundation's executive director, said the new memberships strengthen the open source AI ecosystem.[1]
The announcement came in Shanghai at the first joint staging of KubeCon, CloudNativeCon, the OpenInfra Summit and PyTorch Conference China. The foundation reports that more than 250 organisations in China contribute to projects including PyTorch, vLLM, DeepSpeed, Ray and Safetensors. In the keynotes, Alibaba Cloud's Qwen infrastructure team covered serving the model at scale, Cambricon covered hardening PyTorch's hardware-agnostic layer, Ant Group covered runtimes for agents, and Huawei covered the fit between the framework and its Ascend accelerator.[1]
