Singer and songwriter Nev dies at 57

Nevzat Doğansoy, known professionally as Nev, died aged 57 after receiving hospital treatment in Istanbul. His manager İlker Ercan announced the death. The singer and songwriter reached a broad audience with Zor on his 2001 debut album Her Şeye Rağmen, and became known for interpretations bringing pop and rock together with classical Turkish music.

Nev dies after hospital treatment in Istanbul

Turkish singer, songwriter and composer Nevzat Doğansoy, known by his stage name Nev, died aged 57 on 24 October.[1], [2]

His manager İlker Ercan announced the death. The musician had been receiving treatment for liver failure at Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital in Istanbul. His condition had deteriorated again in October after a period of intensive care. According to his manager, his brother found him after he lost consciousness at home on 3 September. He was intubated after initial treatment in hospital, later taken off the ventilator and announced to be awaiting a liver transplant. His condition worsened and he was intubated again on 21–22 October.[1]

Zor brought his first album to a wider audience

Nev released his debut album Her Şeye Rağmen in 2001. Zor played a central role in its breakthrough. Sen Gibi, Mühürlü Kaderim, Benmişim and Işığım ve Gölgem were also among his well-known songs. His interpretations combined pop and rock with classical Turkish music, and his repertoire included Kimseye Etmem Şikâyet.[1]

From mandolin to Chantage and Teoman’s tour

Born in Istanbul on 24 December 1968, Doğansoy began playing the mandolin as a child and moved to electric guitar at university. He started performing with the band Chantage in 1995 and joined fellow musician Teoman’s tour of Türkiye in 2000, before releasing his first album the following year.[1]
