Lost in the Night ends the recording gap
Dead Man’s Bones, the musical duo of actor Ryan Gosling and musician Zach Shields, have released Lost in the Night. It is their first new song in seventeen years, following their self-titled 2009 album. The production credits pair the duo with longtime collaborator Tim Anderson. A short teaser preceded its release, and Noah Jupe and Rain Spencer star in the accompanying black-and-white music video.[1], [2]
A farm replaces the Los Angeles studios
Gosling and Shields had begun writing together again in recent years, but choosing a place to record proved difficult. After trying several Los Angeles studios, they drove to a farm outside the city. They brought two guitars, two drum machines and two synthesisers, and recorded Lost in the Night in one day. The song is the first released result of their renewed collaboration.[1]
The debut paired the duo with a children’s choir
For their only album, Dead Man’s Bones worked with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, part of a California music-education organisation founded by musician Flea. That debut combined indie rock, gothic folk and doo-wop. The duo withdrew from public view after promoting it, while covers and film and television placements kept their music circulating. Cat Power recorded Pa Pa Power for her 2022 album Covers; the band’s songs also attracted seasonal Halloween interest on social media.[1]
