The Times of India adds wholesale inflation at 9.92% in August from 9.78% in July, above a 4.80% Reuters CPI poll. Mint, citing the same MoSPI release, walks through everyday items that became costlier or cheaper. All three describe one August print.

MoSPI prints 4.82 and 5.95

MoSPI, on the 2024=100 series, put India's provisional August CPI inflation at 4.82%, after a final 4.45% in July. Rural inflation was 5.23% and urban 4.31%. Food inflation (CFPI) was 5.95%. The text is a statistics-ministry notice; it has no wholesale price index. For the reader the first result is that the headline and food prints sit on the official PDF. 4.82% and 5.95% are the ministry's own series. The Times of India's 9.92% is absent from this passage. Mint's item list is absent too. The release is the 14 September August print. There is no independent poll comparison in this notice.[1]

The Times of India adds 9.92

The Times of India reports that CPI-based retail inflation rose to 4.82% in August from 4.45% in July, according to the statistics ministry, above a 4.80% Reuters poll estimate. Wholesale price inflation rose to 9.92% in August from 9.78% in July, according to the commerce and industry ministry, the second-highest reading in the new WPI series. The paper said food and fuel pushed prices higher across food, fuel and manufactured goods. For the reader the second result is that a wholesale print and a poll threshold are added to the same 4.82%. MoSPI's rural 5.23% is absent from this passage. Mint's 5.52%-5.95% food pair is absent here; TOI does not split food item by item. 4.82% is shared across the three sources.[2]

Mint ties food 5.95 to everyday items

Mint reports that India's retail inflation accelerated in August 2026. CPI inflation rose to 4.82% from 4.45% in July 2026, while food inflation increased to 5.95% from 5.52%, according to MoSPI. The paper said the headline does not tell the full story and listed everyday items that became costlier or cheaper. CPI here measures prices of goods and services households buy. For the reader the third result is that 4.82% and 5.95% come from the same official series, and Mint ties them to the basket. TOI's 9.92% is absent from this passage. The three texts are one August print. 4.82% and 5.95% are shared by MoSPI and Mint; 9.92% sits only in TOI. The figures do not conflict.[3], [1], [2]
