Smith celebrates his milestone with an early try
Harlequins beat Saracens 33-15 at The Stoop for their first league win of the season. Marcus Smith marked his 200th club appearance with an early try and the player-of-the-match award. The fly-half directed an attack after Lucas Schmid’s carry and finished it himself. The victory ended Harlequins’ winless opening, although they remained at the bottom of the table.[1], [2]
First-half pressure brings a bonus point
Seb Driscoll crossed after Fin Baxter’s offload. Harlequins also received a penalty try when Ben Earl illegally stopped a maul, and Cadan Murley added another score before the interval. Earl and Fergus Burke were shown yellow cards. Smith denied Max Malins with a last-ditch tackle that dislodged the ball, while Rotimi Segun and Theo Dan scored for Saracens.[1]
Porter adds a fifth as Baxter returns
Will Porter added Harlequins’ fifth try after halftime, taking advantage of a Segun mistake. Nick Tompkins responded for Saracens, but the visitors scored no further points. Baxter completed 40 minutes on his return from a foot injury that had kept him out for ten months. His comeback came two weeks before England’s opening November international against Australia.[1]
