Bayern reach the last 16 with six goals
Bayern Munich beat Magdeburg 6–1 in the German Cup.[1], [2]
The second-round win took Bayern into the last 16. Michael Olise scored twice, including a penalty after halftime. Magdeburg had briefly drawn level in the opening period, but Bayern restored their lead before the interval and added four more goals after it.[1]
Żukowski’s equaliser is followed by Saibari’s goal
Olise opened the scoring before Mateusz Żukowski finished a move carried forward by Felipe Chávez to make it 1–1 in the 15th minute. Ismael Saibari restored Bayern’s lead in the 21st from an opportunity created by Olise. Baris Atik hit the post for Magdeburg late in the half, which ended 2–1. The visitors had kept the starting side that beat Karlsruhe 6–1 in their previous league game.[1]
Davies and two more scorers widen the lead
Alphonso Davies replaced Serge Gnabry at halftime. After Olise’s penalty, Davies scored in the 70th minute following a move prepared by Lennart Karl. Nathaniel Brown added another in the 73rd, and substitute David Santos Daiber completed the score in the 90+3 minute from Josip Stanišić’s pass. Aaron Danks led Bayern in place of the unwell Vincent Kompany. A sell-out crowd of 75,000 was the largest attendance for a Magdeburg match. The eliminated visitors next face Darmstadt away in the league.[1]
