Di Giannantonio sets the pace

Italian motorcycle racer Fabio Di Giannantonio led Friday practice for the Qatar Grand Prix with a Lusail circuit record of 1 minute 50 seconds and 406 milliseconds. The VR46 rider finished 0.142 seconds ahead of Ducati’s Marc Marquez. Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi took third, with Francesco Bagnaia fourth on the other factory Ducati and Raul Fernandez completing the top five.[1], [2]

Marquez returns after a chain failure

Marquez’s chain came off with less than half an hour remaining in the session. He returned along pit lane and rejoined with 18 minutes left. His subsequent 1:50.925 briefly put him first and was the weekend’s opening lap in the 1-minute-50 range. Di Giannantonio went faster late on. Marquez improved again on his final flying lap but remained second.[1]

Ten riders advance directly in qualifying

Enea Bastianini placed sixth, ahead of Jorge Martin, Johann Zarco, Ai Ogura and Brad Binder. Those riders joined the leading five in advancing directly to the second qualifying segment, known as Q2. Fermin Aldeguer missed the cut in 11th, while Pedro Acosta finished 14th. Less than two seconds separated the whole field, and Binder’s final direct-qualification place was just over a second behind the leader.[1]
