Keenan scores three on his return
Ireland full-back Hugo Keenan returned to international rugby with three tries as his team beat Argentina 42-12 in Dublin. The match at the Aviva Stadium came after 21 months away from the national side for Keenan. He was named player of the match as Ireland began the northern-hemisphere portion of the Nations Championship with a win.[1], [2]
Ireland overturns the early deficit
Argentina opened the scoring through Mateo Carreras, who gathered a cross-field kick from Albornoz. Ireland replied after Mack Hansen helped launch an attack that ended with Keenan crossing the try line. Dan Sheehan then scored from close range following a Nick Timoney carry. Keenan’s second came after a stolen lineout, and Ireland reached the interval 21-5 ahead.[1]
Six home tries secure the result
Sam Prendergast scored early in the second half to secure Ireland’s attacking bonus. Santiago Chocobares broke through to set up Carreras for Argentina’s second try, before Keenan completed his hat-trick after an exchange of passes among the forwards. Ronan Kelleher supplied Ireland’s sixth try from a driving maul. Argentina captain Julian Montoya left the match after failing a head-injury assessment.[1]
