Iván Sosa returns to WorldTour with EF Education–EasyPost for 2027

EF Education–EasyPost have signed Colombian climber Iván Sosa for 2027 after two seasons with Kern Pharma. The move restores him to the WorldTour as EF reshape their climbing group following Richard Carapaz’s departure. Sosa says he feels well after surgery in 2025 and wants to progress with the support of his new team.

EF sign Sosa after two seasons at Kern Pharma

EF Education–EasyPost, the American men’s cycling team, have announced Iván Sosa’s signing for 2027. The Colombian climber returns to the WorldTour, the sport’s top team category, after two seasons with Spanish ProTeam Kern Pharma. The 28-year-old joins a squad rebuilding its climbing options following Richard Carapaz’s departure to NSN Cycling.[1], [2]

Sosa said riders already at EF had spoken highly of the team. He described the opportunity as a chance to take a further step in his career with support from the group. His new teammates among the incoming riders include Tao Geoghegan Hart, arriving from Lidl-Trek, and Emil Herzog, joining from Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe.[1], [2]

Sosa describes recovery after artery surgery

Sosa underwent iliac-artery surgery in 2025. He said he had been able to see how his body responded to racing and now felt well. Rejoining the WorldTour with the team’s support was a source of motivation, he said. He wants to keep improving and race for victories, an ambition he believes the team shares.[1]

EF chief executive Jonathan Vaughters described Sosa as approaching his full capabilities again after difficult years. He said the rider had the experience to reach strong breakaways and the climbing strength to help in high mountains. Vaughters linked that assessment to Sosa’s recovery and motivation to race aggressively in pursuit of wins.[1]

A top-level return follows an uncertain period at Kern Pharma

Sosa began his development with Italian team Androni Giocattoli after manager Gianni Savio identified him among Colombian prospects in 2017. He then spent three seasons with Ineos before moving to Movistar. After leaving Movistar at the end of 2024, he joined Kern Pharma for 2025, gaining a place in a smaller Spanish organisation before this return.[1], [2]

Kern Pharma faces uncertainty as its main sponsor withdraws at the end of the year. The team was absent from the International Cycling Union’s preliminary list of ProTeam applicants for 2027. Other riders have also secured moves: Iván Cobo and Diego Uriarte to Movistar and Ibon Ruiz to Bahrain Victorious. Sosa’s contract places him with EF for next season.[2]
