Movistar confirm the destination after September departure decision

Spanish women’s cycling team Movistar have confirmed Paula Blasi’s arrival for three seasons beginning in 2027. The 23-year-old Spaniard is leaving UAE Team L’IMAD before the end of her existing agreement. Her new contract runs through 2029, adding her to Movistar’s top-level WorldTour squad. The team announced the move on Wednesday.[1], [2]

Blasi had said in September that she would leave UAE a year early and had signed with another team for 2027. Movistar had been widely identified as her likely destination, but the Spanish squad’s announcement now confirms the move. The change follows her promotion from UAE’s development team to its WorldTour lineup in May 2025.[1]

Blasi seeks shared leadership and room to develop

Blasi said she needed to take a different step in her sporting career and find a team that believed in her. She wanted support for her goals and ambition matching her own. Her reasons for choosing Movistar include the opportunity to grow, share leadership responsibilities and learn from the experienced rider Marlen Reusser.[1], [2]

The Spanish rider also described pride in joining her home team. Reusser and Liane Lippert are established members of the lineup she is entering. Movistar’s younger group includes Cat Ferguson, Paula Ostiz and Alejandra Neira. The team presented Blasi’s addition as part of its commitment to women’s cycling and a project joining its present to its future.[1]

Unzué aims for the calendar’s biggest races

Team manager Sebastián Unzué said he was delighted finally to announce Blasi’s arrival for the next three seasons. He described the signing as a step forward in quality that would help Movistar compete in the most important races. He thanked Blasi for trusting the project and expressed eagerness to begin working together.[1], [2]

Movistar has been rebuilding its women’s squad for grand tours and one-day classics since Annemiek van Vleuten retired in 2023. Blasi joins that continuing effort alongside Reusser and Lippert. The team has not disclosed the financial terms of the agreement, while the rider’s public explanation centres on sporting development, support and shared responsibility.[2]
