Dani Olmo ruled out of El Clásico with month-long injury absence

Barcelona expect Dani Olmo to be out for approximately a month after tests confirmed a left-adductor injury suffered against Paris Saint-Germain. The midfielder misses Sunday’s El Clásico against Real Madrid. His absence also affects the club’s domestic and European schedule, with the return dependent on recovery as Hansi Flick prepares with a depleted squad.

Barcelona confirm a month-long absence

Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo has a left-adductor injury and is expected to be unavailable for approximately a month. The Spanish club confirmed the diagnosis on Wednesday after medical tests following Tuesday’s match against Paris Saint-Germain. He will miss Sunday’s El Clásico, Barcelona’s meeting with Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou.[1], [2]

The injury followed a collision with an opposing player in Paris. Olmo showed signs of pain in the 27th minute, repeatedly struck the ground with his hand and had to leave the field. Fermín López replaced him. The subsequent tests identified the affected muscle group, and the club’s medical announcement linked the damage to that contact.[2]

Absence extends into league and European fixtures

Cadena SER identifies Alavés in the Spanish league and Aston Villa in the Champions League among the fixtures Olmo is set to miss after Real Madrid. The expected period out also covers the league match against Atlético Madrid unless his recovery timetable changes. Those commitments put his absence across both domestic and European competition.[2]

Villarreal is a possible point for a return to team activities if the recovery forecasts are met, according to Cadena SER. That prospect depends on how the injury develops. Barcelona’s medical announcement gives an approximate month of absence, leaving Flick to prepare his available players for the forthcoming run of games.[2]

Flick resumes preparations with other absentees

Barcelona resumed training at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex on Wednesday after returning from Paris. Players with heavier match workloads stayed in the gym for recovery work; the others trained on the pitch. Flick involved all available first-team players and Barça Atlètic youngsters Hamza Abdelkarim and Àlex Campos, who had also travelled for the European fixture.[1]

Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen and Roony Bardghji are also confirmed absentees for the Real Madrid match. Jules Koundé remains a doubt. The light recovery session began Barcelona’s preparations for the first direct meeting of the season with their domestic rivals, with Olmo now added to the list of unavailable players.[1]
