The Austrian pair eliminate the top seeds
Lucas Miedler and Neil Oberleitner reached the doubles semi-finals at the Erste Bank Open tennis tournament in Vienna, Austria. They came from a set down to defeat top seeds Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten, finishing the deciding match tie-break 10-5. Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard are their next opponents.[1], [2]
Two tie-breaks keep the match close
All four players held serve throughout the opening set. Finland’s Heliövaara and Britain’s Patten took its tie-break 7-5. Another tie-break was needed in the second set, but Miedler and Oberleitner moved ahead early this time and won it 7-2 to level the match.[1]
That sent the quarter-final into a match tie-break. The Austrians again established an early advantage and held it through to the finish, completing their recovery in front of the home crowd.[1]
A final place is at stake at the Marx Halle
The semi-final against Argentina’s Andreozzi and France’s Guinard is scheduled for Saturday at the Marx Halle. Those opponents also needed a deciding match tie-break in their quarter-final. A further win for Miedler and Oberleitner would put them in Sunday’s doubles title match, which is scheduled on Centre Court at the Wiener Stadthalle.[1]
