Five Welsh tries secure the second win

Wales women beat Japan 29-5 in Kumagaya, Japan, completing a two-match tour sweep. Amy Williams scored twice, with Nel Metcalfe, Kelsey Jones and Sisilia Tuipulotu adding a try each. Wales had also won the opening meeting, 17-0.[1], [2]

The forwards build the first-half lead

Metcalfe’s opening score followed a loose Japanese goal-line dropout and a strong carry by Alex Callender. Japan answered through hooker Moe Nagaoka. A kick by Lleucu George then put the home defence under pressure, and Wales regained possession before Jones crossed. George converted two tries.[1]

Williams finished another attack before the break, giving the visitors a 19-5 half-time lead. In the second half Tuipulotu supplied the try that secured an attacking bonus point. Callender later helped release Williams for her second finish.[1]

Thirteen players withstand Japan’s late pressure

Two late yellow cards left Wales with 13 players for the closing stages, but Japan could not add to its score. Co-captain Kate Williams praised the first-half set-piece work while acknowledging that lost discipline had given Japan momentum. Sean Lynn’s team nevertheless held out to complete the second victory of the tour.[1]
