Fery wins only two games
Alexander Zverev advanced to the semi-finals of the Erste Bank Open, the tennis tournament in Vienna, Austria, by beating Arthur Fery 6-0, 6-2. The German top seed needed 58 minutes to complete the quarter-final against Fery.[1], [2]
An opening break establishes control
Zverev broke serve in the first game, then broke again for 3-0 and 5-0. Fery remained without a game through the opening set. The German also began the second set by taking his opponent’s service game. Fery finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth game of the match, making it 1-2 in the second set.[1]
Afterwards, Zverev said he had felt comfortable on court. He described Fery’s strengths as speed and tactical intelligence. He also said he had slept little after securing his rise to the top of the world rankings the previous evening; the tournament placed the formal rankings change on Monday.[1]
De Minaur is the next opponent
His semi-final opponent is Alex de Minaur. The fifth-seeded Australian came through his own quarter-final against Matteo Berrettini in straight sets, reaching the Vienna last four for a third consecutive year. The meeting with Zverev is scheduled for Saturday on Centre Court at the Wiener Stadthalle.[1]
