Grégoire Saucy will race for McLaren in the 2027 World Endurance Championship after helping develop its new Hypercar. A works seat after development duty
McLaren’s endurance racing team has promoted Swiss driver Grégoire Saucy from its development programme to a full-time race seat for the 2027 World Endurance Championship. The 26-year-old will drive its new Hypercar after working on the car during its preparation season.[1], [2]
Team principal James Barclay credited Saucy’s pace, methodical approach and progress during testing. Saucy said he had hoped his development role might bring a race seat, while recognising the experienced competition for places.[1]
From Varano to Goodwood
McLaren first ran the MCL-HY, the car it is preparing for the championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, at Varano in Italy on 4 May. Saucy and Mikkel Jensen shared driving duties at that first outing. Saucy subsequently attended all but one development test and joined Lando Norris for the car’s public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.[1]
An endurance title before the promotion
The appointment follows an October European Le Mans Series title with United Autosports, an endurance racing team. Saucy and his teammates took two wins and five podium finishes across six rounds. He previously won the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship with eight victories, then raced a McLaren 720 LMGT3 Evo in the World Endurance Championship in 2024 and 2025 before entering McLaren’s development programme.[1]
