Google Home MCP lets outside agents run Nest devices
TechCrunch says Google opened a Model Context Protocol server so Claude, Hermes, OpenClaw, ChatGPT and Antigravity can use Google Home devices and event history after a Cloud project sign-in, rolling out to US Premium Advanced subscribers at 20 dollars a month. 9to5Google adds Nest cameras, thermostats and Matter bulbs plus example jobs such as cross-camera summaries.

Hong Kong's Base Rate is set at 4.25 per cent
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority set the Discount Window Base Rate at 4.25 per cent after the 25-basis-point US move. The Standard says the step tracks US policy to hold the Hong Kong dollar peg and that banks may later adjust prime rates.
Huawei pulls the Ascend 960DT training chip to early 2027
At Huawei Connect in Shanghai, rotating chairman David Wang said the Ascend 960DT training chip should be ready in the first quarter of 2027. A company spokesperson told TechCrunch the previous target was the third quarter of 2027. The Straits Times, citing Wang Tao at the same summit, adds a 960PR inference variant for the third quarter of 2027 and notes a 60 percent price rise on today's Ascend 950DT.
India and Pakistan summon diplomats after an Arabian Sea collision
Al Jazeera says Pakistan placed Tuesday's collision inside its SEASPARK-26 exclusive economic zone, while India's External Affairs Ministry called the same contact routine surveillance in international waters. Each capital summoned the other's chargé d'affaires. The New Indian Express says New Delhi summoned Pakistan's chargé on Wednesday, alleged a breach of the 1991 three-nautical-mile rule, and said there was no major damage.
India will protect trade after the US House Russia-Iran tariff bill
India Today carried the MEA pledge to protect trade and energy for 1.4 billion people after the House bill authorizing tariffs of up to 100 per cent on buyers of Russian energy. DD India quoted the same ministry noting the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act.
Indonesia aims for sugarcane E20 fuel inside two years
RRI reports sugarcane as the preferred E20 feedstock, with land discussed in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Papua, and Danantara to develop processing. Energy minister Zulkifli Hasan said land is the main bottleneck and that the first-step ethanol would be domestic. CNBC Indonesia says President Prabowo chaired a palace meeting targeting E20 implementation in 2028, with a later E50 path. About two million hectares were named as possible cane land.
Israel and Morocco will open full embassies
In New York, Gideon Sa'ar and Nasser Bourita agreed to raise liaison missions to embassies and name ambassadors. Al-Monitor says the 22 December 2020 declaration was reaffirmed, while Al Jazeera says direct flights, including Israeli and Moroccan airlines, are due back before the end of 2026.

Sweden's preliminary count leaves the opposition on 176 seats to 173 for the Tidö side. Ulf Kristersson then offered his resignation to the speaker. The Local says he wrote to Andreas Norlén asking to be relieved. Magdalena Andersson still has to bargain with the Left, Centre and Green parties. The figures are not the locked final protocol.
