The national tank took 53 billion cubic feet

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) report dated 24 September counted working gas in the lower 48 states at 3,351 billion cubic feet for the week ending 18 September. The net change was an increase of 53 billion cubic feet from 3,298 billion cubic feet the week before.[1]

Stocks sat 4.2 per cent below the year-earlier 3,497 billion cubic feet. The five-year average is 3,256 billion cubic feet, and the current stock is 2.9 per cent above it. The tank is still on the fill side of the week, and behind the same week a year earlier.[1]

Salt caverns moved the other way

South Central salt stocks in the EIA table fell by 5 billion cubic feet to 217 billion cubic feet. Nonsalt stocks rose by 8 billion cubic feet to 825 billion cubic feet. The regional total rose by 2 billion cubic feet to 1,041 billion cubic feet. The flexible cavern drew while the rest of the region filled.[1]

The East in the EIA table rose by 20 billion cubic feet to 815 billion cubic feet, and the Midwest rose by 25 billion cubic feet to 959 billion cubic feet. The national balance is still an injection. The salt draw is the flexible leg of the same week. The weekly total does not split the cavern draw by customer.[1]
